March 2026 Update

Water for Whatcom: March 2026

So, who are we? We are a group of concerned organizations and individuals who seek a collaborative and open-minded approach to water resource issues in our county. This has rich potential to drive constructive change in our community.

We seek to listen, learn, understand, and collaborate. When we work together, we create outcomes far better than anything we can accomplish individually. Based on shared values, we aspire to be a cooperative example in our work and encourage others to join us as we seek to influence leaders. With the legal process of water rights adjudication now underway, we share deep concern for the limited attention and action in our county in the face of critical water resource management issues beyond that scope.

We stand in support of our tribal neighbors, Lummi Nation & Nooksack Indian Tribe; we acknowledge and respect their sovereignty, and their rights reserved under the Treaty of Point Elliot. Individually, we benefit from personal relationships with a broad range of community members to better understand the social & cultural context for our concerns.

We have been working hard forming the structure for our group: how we will work, what we believe and our shared vision. More will be shared next month. Please take the time to visit our website www.waterforwhatcom.org.
